In 1929 the company branched into passenger services, providing a link between Dallas and Jackson, Mississippi. In 1942 service to New Orleans and Miami was initiated. Larger aircraft were added gradually, but it was Delta's takeover of Northeast Airlines in 1972 that completed the airline's transformation into an industry giant.
